Comment #53, May 27, 2013: That sequence when Moses was unable to sing and he was almost dying whaen he head the dust flying or a fly wondering around or whatever things that just make sounds..was my favourtite part of the book. Every sound was like a knife in his heart..and he prefferd stabbing his hands..so he couldn't hear those things .The fact that something that meaningless made his whole body trumble and feel extasy really shoke me. The things that ment so much to him.. for us are nothing..nothing at all, he would if died for them, i believe it's a true meaning of being an artist..and it made me think about what art means to us and what is art in general, it's that thing that makes us feel painfully good, it's that thing that nobody else sees, but we see it, and not only that we see it, we feel it, we eat it ..it's the thing that keeps us alive, it's what we live for, everyone is an artist in different ways..

Comment #49, January 1, 2013: Read this book almost entirely in one sitting. At times I almost didn't dare read on, and later couldn't stop reading. The exquisite writing took me through every emotion and I cheered when they got little Nicholai. I can't wait for the next book!

Comment #48, December 12, 2012: a wonderful story especially how the sounds are experienced by Mozes. How he hears the effect in others! And very interesting to realize how the world at that time was interested in music and singing and what terrible acts they did to preserve voices of boys. I am looking forward to your next book!

Comment #47, July 24, 2012: Your book stopped too soon. When I realized I only had a few more pages to read, I panicked - I didn't want to leave Moses, Nicolai, Remus, Tasso, and baby Nicolai! I wanted to continue following their adventures. I wanted to be there when Moses found his triumph. This is a brilliant book and I lived the characters, the passion for the music, and I saw the sounds, heard the bells, felt the music. I will miss Moses and think of him often. A brilliant book. Thank you.

Comment #45, January 14, 2012: I heard a review of The Bells a year or more ago on PBS radio and want my book club to read it. Unfortunately our county's library system (in a major metropolitan area) doesn't list Richard Harvell in its catalog. Our book club only reads books available at the library (although I'm happy to buy it and will).

Comment #44, November 13, 2011: I just finished actually seeing "The Bells" in my head ! The way you write put life into the words and it was real. I have also listened to all the music mentioned I could find on the computer. I discovered Phillippe Jaroussky who I imagined as an older Moses. Your story was magic to me. Thanks so much.
